Today Show: What information about your child is being sold online

In my interview for Today Show I warn parents to check the terms and conditions on the apps their children are using after reports their personal information is being sold off.

This comes after a recent report by Australian cyber security company Internet 2.0 revealed popular social media platform TikTok is harvesting data not relevant to the use of the app. While there are parental controls on TikTok, that doesn't stop the app from collecting information including their name, date of birth and location.

TikTok is not the only app that harvests private information. Of the 400000 children's apps available, more than 50% are doing this. We will never know exactly what data they have about our children, who they sell it to, what is done with it and for what purpose. Also there is no way of getting it back. In the interview I explain parents what they need to do.
