Consent, cybersafety & when parents don't have permission to post their child's images

While being a proud parent is one thing we should not be defining quality of parenting by 'family' social media posts.

Uploading photos of your children to social media is banned in France if you disclose any private details about the child. Parents in Australia are now being urged to follow a similar rule. Privacy has become a coveted resource and one many children will never experience given the huge amount of photos, video and information about them posted to social media platforms by their parents.

My take home advice is to err on the side of caution.

Three types of care are needed:

1. the images you post,

2. what you write about your child 3.

how often you post about them.

Consider why you are uploading something about your child to a public forum and in the worst case scenario who it can possibly harm (the answer will usually be your child).
