What exactly does too much screentime does to toddlers?

We know exactly what happens to a young child's development if they have too much screentime:

1. Language development can be impacted if they are constantly sitting quietly using their device because there are less conversations and opportunities for them to talk. If they are on the device with a parent/sibling this is different as they will be lots of talk about the game.

2. Social development can be impacted if your child is always given a device while they are out. This is because they are quiet and occupied with their screen so do not get the opportunities to learn how to act in a cafe or supermarket. Giving a child a device occasionally when they are out is OK, but be aware of always doing this. It's important for children to have many opportunities to learn the social behaviours for different places and situations.
